About LERC

At Long Eaton, we cater for all ages and abilities, from the 12 minute miler to the 12 miles an hour athlete. Club nights are Tuesdays and Thursdays, meeting at 6.30p.m. for a warm up session. Usually there are different ability groups for you to join but if you are a new starter there will initially be a LERC member to look after you. . Click here for location map for West Park Leisure Centre.

Both the warm-up and run activity varies from week to week (the activity/sessions are displayed on the LERC noticeboard, located near the Main Hall).

We start with an optional 25 minutes warm-up of stretching and exercises, followed by a run at 7.00p.m. On Tuesdays this may be steady, fast, fartlek, interval or hill work according to the schedule or your preference, and on Thursdays there is usually a longer route ideal for a tempo run.

Members also meet on weekends for a longer, steady run. Mileage is usually between 9 and 14, depending on what races are coming up. There are currently two slower groups, a Saturday one meeting at Sandiacre Lidl at 9.00, and a Sunday one. The weeks run will be posted on our forum in the Weekend and Striders runs section for the Saturday. The groups will enter races such as the Belvoir Challenge (16 miles) and Seagrave Wolds (14 miles). The pace is usually about 10 min miles on average, with the stops for drinks and stiles, and if you are interested just put a message on the thread. There is a faster group, The Striders, who run on Saturday morning at 7am from the leisure centre and do about 12 miles at an 8 to 8.30 min mile pace. Other groups also go out, if you ask around you can find someone of a similar pace.

We are affiliated to UK Athletics (England Athletics) and presently compete in the North Midlands, East Midlands and Booths Cross-Country Leagues during the winter. All year round, members participate in a variety of different distances and types of running, including fell-running, cross country and road running, and we are affiliated to the Notts AAA Road Race League and Booths Summer league. That is over 20 free races a year.

Membership is currently £20 a year, for which you get the free races, £2 off all other races and a great bunch of new friends. We put on 5 races a year, our famous Long Eaton 5 and fun run, two cross country league races and our new 50 mile ultra and relay. We have flourishing Ladies, Seniors and Veterans sections of the Club who win many individual and team prizes. Throughout the year we also enjoy lively social events including a running pub crawl, a cycling pub crawl, meals and a quiz night. With over 150 members they are always well attended.

So if you are interested, drop down on a Tuesday or Thursday, but try to let someone know so that we can look out for you.
