How We Started

In 1986 two local runners, Don Pitman and Martin Goodhall took part in a relay race at Nottingham University. Although one of the last teams around the course, they still enjoyed the competition and decided to form a running club. Don remembers “in October of that year there were just 6 of us meeting up at a bus shelter by the canal bridge on Tamworth Road. The club grew to 12 by the end of that first year and we started to use the football changing rooms on West Park before the Leisure Centre was built”.

The Club has grown since that time and now has over 160 members with a very strong ladies section. We cater for all runners whether interested in competition or running to keep fit, at 5 minute miling or at 5 miles an hour, although the Club no longer has a junior members section. Club members feature strongly in local races with over 50 members running the Nottingham Heritage Grand Prix series in 2007 and 31 in the Robin Hood Half Marathon. Notable results include regular top 3 finishes for Neil Renault, Andy McNeil and Sharon Orridge, with several team awards throughout the year for both men and ladies.

The Club has an active social life including winter and summer presentation evenings and several nights out are arranged. Running centres on West Park where members are encouraged to meet up in the bar after training and many strong friendships are formed among members.
