Was Runner Of The Month for

May-21
May's runner of the month is a long time LERC'er, who is actually just a couple of weeks shy of celebrating the 10th anniversary of his first race in LERC colours - at the Heritage Series, which parallels nicely with the last of his races, the 4th day of the Tour of Derwent Valley Series.

Between those two races, Mark has clocked up 240 races, with a good number over every discipline, which makes his recent improvements and PB's even more remarkable - as he certainly hasn't been slacking for the last 10 years!

This month has seen Mark complete the ToDV series, with finishes of 7th, 6th, 6th and 4th, to finish in 4th place overall and also take home the V40 prize. Mark also took on the two LERC events for May and recorded PB's in both! Starting with the mile, Mark was caught in a great group fighting it out for position, which took him a second off his previous best and then he took over 20 seconds off his 5k best, which was set 3 years ago, to record 18:25.

Mark's always been a great club man and a runner that has often gone under the radar and perhaps not always received the credit and recognition he deserves. It's great to see him making waves that can't go unnoticed and I'm sure those improvements will keep on coming!

Well done Mark

Other worthy contenders for this month include Matt Peel, Kim C & Joe W-M who double PB'd at the LERC events, Vic C, Tim C, Laura and Tom B for some awesome Half-Marathon efforts and Stacey for her winning of lots long things!

Jan-24
It’s often the case that a LERC Runner of the Month could well have won the award for a number of the previous months too and that’s certainly the case for the January 2024 winner, Mark Lay. The whole winter for Mark has produced a series of fine runs, many of them in the Cross Country arena – and this is where January’s running really stood out, particularly with a double-header of competitive racing at Bulwell Hall Park, separated by just a week. First up came the County Championships, with Mark competing in the Derbyshire race-within-a-race, with a week to recover from a tough 6.7 mile slog through mud and standing ice-cold water before taking a slightly different route through much the same in the last of the North Mids races. Both saw Mark run PBs and finish well up in age category.
In terms of double-headers, the North Mids was also the Saturday helping of XC2, with our own BDL race at Bramcote coming the day after. Whilst clearly having sapped the legs, Mark still managed a comfortable top 30 finish, part of what will, I’m sure be a Vet 50 league victory.
All this came shortly after starting the year strongly, finishing 2nd Vet 50 at the Malt Shovel Hangover Race on New Year’s Day.
All this has been achieved without being fully fit, either! We’re really looking forward to the niggly achilles returning to 100% and seeing you at full speed. Well done Mark…
