Runner of the Month - Wade Fodden
After just missing out on Runner of the Month twice already, including last month, Wade has continued his great form to be right in contention once again. This is no mean feat given Wade has only been a member for 10 months. Over the past 8 weeks Wade has set PB's for 5k, 5 miles, 10k, 10 mile and Half-Marathons, which is a truly remarkable achievement.
Beginning with the Sinfin 10k, Wade produced performance and pace that nearly exceeded his 5k PB at the time, Just missing out on a sub 40 clocking and a top 20 finish. He did however claim a very creditable at Carsington 7+, earning LERC big points for the RunDerby Series. His next PB came at Trent 5, knocking over 3 minutes off his previous official best. Then came parkrun and a superb run at the end of June to smash his PB and claim a sub-20 timing for the first time.
Moving onto June, Wade again showed progress at the wet BDL race at Denby, finishing in 82nd position, improving on previous positions of 118th and 103rd. Moving up the distances, Wade has also taken on the Notts 10 and Derby Half, recording PB's of 68:07 and 1:30:30 respectively. Finally, just as a bit extra and to prove how much of a team player he is as well, Wade volunteered to pace 22 minutes at Long Eaton parkrun and 50 minutes at the Nottingham 10k and led a number of other runners to PB's. With all of this awesome, consistent running, Wade currently sits top of the overall Summer League standings!

A big shout out to the Runner of the Month for February 2024 – Mr Wade Fodden. Wade spent most of the month caked in mud, it would seem; not only does he have a pretty hefty off-road training regime, but he was also very successful in the tail end of the Cross Country season. That breaks down, just for February, as two East Mids races, at Colwick Woods and our own West Park, in P33 & P29 respectively, followed by a P18 in the final Derby Runner (formerly Booths) race at Holmebrook Park in Chesterfield – perhaps the most challenging course conditions of all, in a mostly submerged XC season. This last race was a significant factor in Wade’s subsequent 3rd place in category, when the DR league wrapped up in Ilkeston a fortnight later. Clearly Wade’s powers of recovery from the Chesterfield mud were good too – a week on and he rounded off his month’s racing in 31st overall and first VM45 at the Leicestershire Half Marathon, clocking a huge PB in just under 1H 22 minutes. In between all the running, Wade also makes a significant contribution to the club in our wonderful weekly roundups and special league race reports. These take a tremendous amount of time and effort to pull together, for which we’re very grateful. Thanks Wade and congrats on a sparkling (if slightly mud-spattered) month!
